Tunze Configuration 180g LPS Tank

Roger,

What do think the best configuration is for a 180g (72x24x24) LPS tank. I was thinking of 2 7400/2s and a multi-controller. I have built in overflows so I will have flow coming in from the returns.

Where do you position pumps? 1 high and 1 low on each end? The tank is acrylic so I believe I will have to use silicon to fasten the straps to the sides of the overflows or get the deco rocks.

I like the idea of a SOFT, long, pulsating, flowing current across the tank.

Is there detailed documentation available online.

I tested 7400/2 and Tunze Stream 6000, 6100 in my 130 g. reef aquarium.

If your idea is a SOFT, long, pulsating, flowing current across the tank select Tunze Stream 6000 or event better Tunze Stream 6100.

I found nice description on Tunze home page.

7400/2 produce strong current, like on the top of the reef.
Tunze Stream 6000, 6100 produce soft current, like on the edge of the lagoon or on the reef slope .

I would agree with Bojan. It would require 4 7400/2 to get a good flow for SPS. I would suggest the 6100 Streams.

Thanks.

I'm an LPS guy so I will go for the 6000 series. Which is softer the 6000 or 6100? Can I get away with only one?

The 6000 would be softer but the flow is so diffuse it only carries 4ft, you will need 2.

Roger,

One last question.

If I get the 6100s (which carries about 7ft) can I adjust them so that they are as soft as the 6000s and still project the stream 7ft.

My tank is 6ft. I am thinking that I can have the streams of the 61OOs cross the entire tank and hit the opposite walls and bounce off.

The higher flow would necessarily increase the force near the output, you could use it as you suggest but the force near the outlet would only be suitable for thick branched acroporas.
