Tunze external magnets work underwater?

Could the tunze external magnet be mounted inside the aquarium?

My tank is 1-1/4" thick but my overflow box is only 1/4" thick and I was thinking of installing the pump on the overflow box and have the external magnets inside the overflow box where they would be underwater probably.
