Tunze > Jebao by a long shot!

Just wanted to share for others who may be looking to upgrade or replace as I was.

I've been running a Jebao WP40 in my 6' 150g tank for quite some time. I've always thought it has been a good PH, seemed to move quite a bit of water and was a great deal.. I think I had it shipped for less than $70.
After about 1.5 yrs it has died out and it was due for replacement.
Black Friday came just in time and I picked up a Tunze 6105 from BRS for $195 shipped.

Hole-E-Crap! What a difference. The power on the controller was at about 70% out of the box and I think it almost caused a tsunami in my dining room. I could not belive the force coming out of this thing.
There is literally ZERO comparison to the force and function of these 2 products.
Pretty close to the same size, but I have the Tunze dialed down to about 30% and it is moving water like I've never seen in my tank.
The fish and corals seem much happier, and the amount of cyano that's already disappeared from yesterday to today is considerably noticeable. Maybe it's just blown off, but who knows if it'll come back.

Only almost 24 hours in, but I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. Should have bought this first 1.5 hrs ago.
If you are in the market, don't second guess this pump.

Thanks for reading.

well sure.

i mean the price difference alone tells the tale.

Not always the case.

If you just rely on price to reflect quality for most things, you may be disappointed more times than you are satisfied... and have a little less money too.

It was hard for me to make my mind up without seeing any pumps in person and just going off reviews and a couple sub par videos. WP40 was my only reference really as its the only pump I've ever used.

I think I just turned into a Tunze guy. Can't go wrong with German technology.

They are rated the flow the same, but who knows how reliable Jebao's specs are. From the look of the Tunze, I'm betting the flow is a lot more concentrated than a Jebao pump, which would make it feel stronger. I don't doubt the Tunze is better, just playing devil's advocate here.

I've used hydors, vortechs, and cheap stuff.
You can tell the quality not only in the flow but in the build. There's a reason vortechs and tunzes cost what they do, and it's not from superior marketing or otherwise.

I've spend enough money in enough hobbies to know you get what you pay for: car parts, remote control aircraft, reefing, boating, etc.

I've been a tunze guy for a decade now, one of the best investments one can make for the or reef tank. I run six on my 300: two 620X and 4 6105's. Sps love it.

I use 2 of the Tunze Turbelle 6015's in my 40b and I really like them. I love the design/quality/flow, and the "German-ess" of them!

The Tunze came with 2 covers. One being the standard, and one having a much wider mouth.
The wider mouth really cuts down the projection of the flow, but still pretty powerful. With that piece on though it is MAYBE somewhat comparable to the jebao on its best day, but still a ways off from the Tunze.
With the standard cover on, the jebao doesn't stand a chance. Not even close.
I'll have to do a direct comparison soon to figure out where the huge difference comes from, although my wp40 is pretty much shot.

Depends on if you want wide flow or concentrated flow. It's apples and oranges...or maybe oranges and grapefruit since it's not THAT different. I wonder how much is the wow factor from going from a worn out possibly dirty pump to a brand new clean pump.

Well, it wasn't so much for wide versus concentrated. Wide flow cover seems like it would work very well for a 4' long tank. The standard cover is a must for a 6' tank.

I would put money down that this pump is putting out much more flow than a brand new wp40 could.
I'm experiencing new kinds of turbulence and surface agitation I've never seen before. Even with the Tunze mounted lower than the wp40 was, the surface is moving harsher than it ever has, and that's on 30% and not even angled towards the surface.

If you want to send a new wp40 my way, I'll gladly make an in depth comparison video and then we will all know for sure.
PM me for the address ;)

I think the point is that simple linear flow isn't the whole story. A pump's ability to create the hobbyist's *desired* flow is, while harder to quantify, more important.

Personally... the ability to simply push a ton of water is secondary to a pump's ability to create a good gyre in my tank. And that, from my completely unscientific perspective, is a function of both amount of flow and type of flow.

That said, I've been disappointed with my vortechs and have been looking at tunze as a possible replacement... so I'm glad to hear your positive reviews.

Yea just look at that chip they had on all the cars to duck emissions tests :hammer:

I meant electronics such as audio equipment and such.
Cars is a whole other ball game that no one has seemed to have gotten right yet. Problems with any car manufacturer that you look at.
