Tunze Nano 3152 Oso Issues

Not sure whats going on.

Put it together, put it on the back glass of my nano's filter chamber and it began to fill. So I closed it, and never went back. Did my weekly water change and had noticed the level of the top off water hadn't changed. Opened it up, and sure enough the tank was low.

Plugged it in, it began to pump. Filled to the proper level, or so I thought, shut off. Same thing, I do not believe the optical sensor is working and the float is shutting the unit down.

So I did it again tonight, let it pump to the level where it stopped, moved the sensor up a small amount, and it didn't begin pumping.

The alarm never goes off, unless you have to configure the jumpers for that, I didn't do that. But the unit will not top off properly.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Do you have a 3152 or 3155? The 3152 has no optic sensor and no alarm (the pump will pulse for a couple minutes if it has timed out, but their is no speaker)

It sounds like it is a 3152 and it is timing out, if the volume is over 25 gallons you need to extend the metering time as shown on pages 26-27 of the manual. Out of the box it will only work on tanks below 25 gallons as the pump shuts off after 1.8 minutes and only cycling the power can reset this. It can be extended to 3 minutes for tanks up to 55 gallons.

It's a 29g Biocube and it's the 3152 unit.

It isn't timing out, that is for certain. I believe something is wrong with unit. I took my phone and used the stop watch.

Moved the unit up the glass where the float was free.
Plugged it in.
Filled for about 25 seconds.
Float kicked in.
Shut off.

Moved the float up to where is was free and should of began pumping water into the system. It didn't do anything.

I would extend the timer to 3 minutes, for a tank this size especially with the cold dry air I would expect in Alaska, this will be needed on a tank that size.

I would also add a small shim between the magnet on the outside and the glass, the float switch is a magnetic switch, the black ring inside the float is a magnet that flips a magnetic switch in the post. It can fail to respond if pinned down by a nearby magnet, the magnet holders are misaligned or it is mounted on thinner glass (3/16" or less), a shim of 1/8" acrylic or rubber and moving it away from any nearby magnetic field will be the solution for this.

It is possible the unit is faulty, but I would verify these two items first. We are swamped this week with last minute Christmas orders so the soonest I could send a replacement is Thursday, just check these things and let me know by Wednesday how things turn out.
