Tunze nano ATO

I'm not sure where to go with my issue. Hopefully I can get some guidance here. :headwally:

My nano ATO has not been working properly for about a week now. When I approach the unit (pump in the reservoir) it is making a clicking sounding. I replaced the pump once already thinking this was the problem but both pumps work when I get it to run.

The way I get it to run is I have to twist the power cord where it connects to the controller. If I twist it a little, it kicks on and starts pumping. Once that's done and the sensor triggers it to pump more, the pump starts "clicking" again.

Please help!! I'm coming up on some travel time and I can't be there to twist the cord all the time.

My guess is that twisting the cord is kind of a superstition and it may just be coincidence that this solves the problem. The only way I see this working is if the power cord to the pump is loose in the controller or the controller has timed out and in doing this you are jiggling the power and resetting the timer. When the pump is "clicking" is it clicking every 20 seconds a quick pulse, or is it "tick, tick, tick, like the second hand on a watch? How big is the tank it is on and how long have you had it?

It's a fast pulse. Multiple ticks per second. When I twist the power cord in the controller you can hear a click (like its connecting electrically) and then it turns on. If I don't do that, the pump will continue to just click.

40 gallon tank w/ 20 gallon sump is about 9 months old and I've had the nano ato for 7 months running.

Did you set the controller for 3 minutes before timing out? Out of the box it is set to time out after a 1.8 minute continuous run, it then will not run again until the power is cycled which is what I suspect is happening when you jiggle it. 1.8 minutes is for 25 gallons and less, 3 minutes is for 25-55 gallons.

I did not set that. It has presently been done now so I'll wait and see if it kicks in properly on its own. Thanks!

I took some water out of the sump to test it and it's back to the ticking again. I did set the controller properly this time but it's doing the same.

OK, the controller is faulty, we are in Austin so turnaround will be very fast. Send me the controller, as long as their is no water damage we will replace it. Be sure to include a note with return address and phone number.
