Tunze Nano Skimmer and Power Outages

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a 9002 skimmer that I really like but there is one problems I can't seem to figure out:

After power outages the pump doesn't restart. I have to take the whole thing apart, and use a toothpick to get the impeller working all while holding it in my small tank. I have tried cleaning the pump, checking all the lines, etc... Sometimes it restarts but often it doesn't.

Very frustrating.

Anyone know if I am doing something wrong? Is there a better way to get the pump going again?

It should restart on its own. I would check that the shaft and drive unit are clean. Clean the hole in the drive unit with a pipe cleaner and vinegar. If this does not solve the problem, send in the pump for repair/replacement. If the shaft fits tight in the drive unit because of sand or calcium build up, it may not be able to overcome the resistance and start on its own.

bumping an old old thread....

I am still having a problem with this. I gave up and removed the skimmer for about a year. I need to run one again and still have the problem. I soaked the pump in vinegar overnight. The pump seems to work okay when running but if it stops I can't get the impeller to start unless I hit it with a toothpick. I probably only have about 3 months of run time on the pump and would like to use the skimmer (finally lol).

I tried to find a replacement pump but it looks like they are discontinued. Any ideas?

The pump is still available and is in stock, it is 0800.040. Premium Aquatics stocks them and you can order it on Tunze.com, you can ignore the description on Tunze.com, if you order 0800.040 that is what you will get. I would suspect there is some relatively minor problem and we may be able to fix it, it is up to you. It is a roughly $40 pump new and repair including shipping both ways will likely cost $20 in total.

Thanks for the response Roger

I think I would prefer to do both haha. I will order a new pump, please give me the info on how to send it in for repair. Thanks!

That may be the most economical if you can wait for the new pump. I can send both together and save you some money. Send in the old pump with a note with your return address and phone number and that you also want a spare replacement. I will call to arrange payment after I have diagnosed the old one.

Send it to:
