Tunze or Vortec

if you want a silent setup then go with tunze...
on the vortech your going to have whining up and down .... to some its not noticable.
When we had our TV on it wasnt noticable at all.. but at night with it off you can definately hear it.

I could hear my tunzes whine at different pitches depending on pump speed as well.

The Vortechs hum is ALOT more noticeable than the Tunzes. Ive had Tunzes in the past that have a slight drone to them as they dropped to 30% on the controller. I have 6105s currently, and I cannot hear them with my ear right to the glass, and that is with a dead silent display tank.

Ive tried 3 Vortechs, 2 Gen1 and 1-Gen2- all could be heard humming/whirring ~15 feet away. Fans and other audible equipment would easily drown it out.

maybe i had a bad set. i could hear them at all power levels. the noise was audible from across the room. it used to drive me nuts!

The 6000's I had would do it from time to time, and for no apparent reason. When the 6105s came out, they had a pretty good hum to them also-but Tunze corrected it with a larger propeller and less voltage.

Scott (sjm817), do you mind posting a picture of your battery backup?

I'm trying to visualize it, but I don't see the connections.

Thank you.

Donald

I run 4 tunze on a 180g tank and I have to look really close to make sure they are working because you can not hear them. I set them to run wide open. They look better then any other pump/wave maker out there imo.

i have ahd 2x tunze 6100's and switched to 2x mp40w's. all i can say is that i am in love with my vortechs. the tunzes were great pumps, but the different settings and extra tweeking you can do with the vortechs is great. and the flow is sooo much wider it is like have a couple extra tunzes in the tank.
