tunze problems

I have a tunze 6100 with a single controller that I have been happy with for several months now.

There was a problem with my tank recently (a leak developed). I had to drain the tank.
I was going to hook up the tunze to circulate water in the tank where I am storing my live rock. But it no longer turns on.

When I plug it in the red lights on the controller unit do not even light.

When I unplud the din cord that connets the controller the unit makes a beeping sound.

Do you have an Idea what could be wrong? I opened the unit and it does not look like water got in. all looks shiny and and new...

Thanks in advance

Try to clean the pump inside, IMO, the beeping sound tell you it's cleaningtime.
I have stream 6000 and 6100 and they must be clean every 3-4 months.
Clean them in 50/50 vinegar and warm water.

Yes, especially if it was dry for a while, all the aalgae films and minerals dry inside and cake up. Clean the magnetic rotor and pay special attention that it is free spinning and seperate from the part called the upper bearing which is the circular track at the bottom of the hole that has the red oring under it.

I soaked the unit in vinegar/water and cleaned it up.
I was able to get it to start, but only if the controller was disconnnected.
It runs if the control is not attached.
Do you think the controller has gone bad?
The unit is only about a year old.

Are their any signs of corrosion? The electronics are pretty much solid state so their isn't much to have go bad, but even a few drops of water on the photocell or plug could cause this. The other possible cause is the foodtimer button is stuck. To fix this push it side to side, if you are adventurous you might open the single controller- pry off the knobs with a slotted screwdriver and undo the screws in the back. The only causes I can think of are- short to the driver connection, short in the photocell connection- both would be caused by saltwater and show green corrosion. The only other cause is a stuck foodtimer button and this just has to be loosened, it is pinched in the housing and not releasing properly.

There does seem to be a small amount of corrosion at the connection between the controller and the power supply. It is not green , but white.
Is that causing a short circuit?
If so can the m/f side of the plug be replaced?

It can but it is very complicated and I could not guarantee success. I would see if just cleaning it with canned air and contact cleaner will fix it. If you like send it to me. It just depends how much damage their is, it sounds minimal but if it is actually damage on the board this can be tough to fix, I do have the female socket end in stock.

Do you have an address I can send to?
I purchsed this last year from John @ Global Fish and Pets in Houston, I don't know I if still have the receipts....

The receipt is not necessary, the production date is stamped on the pump. Send it to me at
