Tunze skimmer for sumpless tank

Hello Roger,

I'm considering a Tunze skimmer for my 58 gallon sumpless tank. I have not seen any of these skimmers in action and I find information about these skimmers scarce on the web. However I am happy enough from my experience with the Tunze Streams and with the Tunze osmolator, that I will probably try a Tunze skimmer. I have heard they are very quiet and this is important to me.

Can you help me sort out whether the skimmer dimensions will work with my tank?

First of all as I understand these Tunze skimmers are "hang-on inside the tank" is that right?

My tank has a standard Oceanic canopy. This gives about 4" of clearance between the top of the tank and the canopy in back. Will this work with your skimmers? Can you tell me what sort of space above the tank, and also how much clearance behind the tank, these skimmers require. Also how much room inside the tank will they take up? In addition will they mount on standard Oceanic tanks or do they need some kind of special mounting hardware like my Tunze Stream did?

Also I read that a new improved Tunze skimmer is coming out soon, any information about this? And which model would you recommend for a 58 gallon tank?

The new model 9005 will work with a canopy, it has a really short skimmer cup that will clear under any canopy. The mounting hardware is essetially identical to our other products but we now include the hardware for Oceanic with our products. You are correct, it is hang in tank and it takes up a space of 4.75" square by 11" deep. Unfortunately our current models won't work with a canopy.
