One of the great things about the Tunze Streams is all the different ways to mount them. The stock mounts, Tunze magnets, deco rocks, on a pivoting arm like a Sea Swirl, or a Sure Grip magnet.
The Sure Grip magnets have a smaller footprint than the Tunze magnets, but are thicker. The assembly when put together makes the pump stick out from the glass about 2.5" and also causes it to droop down a little which may or may not be desirable for your setup.
The magnet and body of the pump are also offset which makes for a larger vertical footprint
I came up with a simple mod that reduces the footprint and eliminates the droop.
Cut the stock pivot arm as shown. You could also use a suitable size PVC pipe.
Use some PVC primer and PVC glue and simply glue the piece you cut off to the top of the magnet as shown below. The PVC glue will make a very strong bond between the pieces. Let dry thoroughly before use.
The pump now sits very close to the magnet and has no droop. The magnet looks like part of the pump.
The vertical alignment and footprint are also improved.
The downside is you can not pivot the pump. If you need to, this mod is not for you. One thing you could try is to face glue the pivot to the magnet like below. It would reduce the amount the pump sticks out, and improve the vertical footprint, but not the droop. I have not tried this myself.
Hope this is useful for some of you.
