tunze top off with kalk

yes but you would need to clean up the pump and tubbing once every couple of months

I personally wouldn't run kalk through the top off pump. Tunze makes a passive kalk dispenser but it's pricey. I just somewhat copied it and made my own using some clear pvc, pvc caps and john guest fittings and a check valve. A lot of folks say you're not getting 100% saturated lime water this way, but it seems to work just fine for my setup. I feel like it gives you a buffer for accidental kalk overdose. Just my $.02.

Would running the Tunze dispenser be over kill for a tank with 39 gallons of water volume? I want to get my tank running a little more on auto pilot. Its sps dominant and is consuming a good amount of alk and calcium.

I dose kalk with my tunze ATO. I have a spare pump for backup. Kalk is hard on the pump and limits the life of it. The pumps are cheap to replace though. ( about $23.00 )

Boboli and Burban, do you premix the kalk in the dispenser? Also, how do you keep the kalk from settling to the bottom of it?

Just fill and forget, the ATO will automatically mix it. Forgot to mention that you may have to periodically shake it to prevent water from channeling.

Thanks. Now what water level do you use to determine how much kalk to put in, the fuge? the main tank? or both combined? also, how often do you add the kalk?
