Tunze w/ Non-Tunze Wavemaker?

Just curious, anyone out there running their non controllable Tunzes (ie 6000) with a wavemaker (ie Oceanpulse) ? Results?

Debating on running a pair of 6000's with a Quadra Wavemaker, but hesitant because I dont want to burnout my Tunzes.

you may want to ask in the tunze forum as I know there are a few controllers out there that are not compatiable with tunze's

Thanks shifty. I had done that a few weeks back and Roger Vitko stated that its 50/50, regarding pump burnout. Wasnt very helpful!

I just wanted to see if there are any other hobbyists running non-tunze controllers and if there have been any success in it.

Looking back to his post, Roger had said it is not ideal if it was switched on and off rapidly and they locked up, and to expect a shorter life on the pump.

The controllable pumps were not really meant for on/off use, they are designed to be controlled with a 0-10v contoller.

Why not look out in the used forums for a used 7095? They go for $90-$120....considering that the JBJ OceanPulse is about $65 (assuming I have the right one) you are already pretty close to the 7095. You could even find the predecessor to the 7095- the 7094- for even cheaper. You would also have far more control and nightime currents :).

Hi,I have a Tunze 6065 (1724 gph) and it is non-controllable, I bought a prop and a Silence Clamp from roger (great guy). When I first got it, I plugged it and out several times very fast, if you do that the prop will lock up and chip, so definitely do not use the non-controllable pumps with a wavemaker, I did ask Roger about putting my pumps on a 3 hour cycle with a timer and that is fine. If I remember correctly, he said not to turn on and off within 15 minute cycles.

James, thats a great point. I have 2 of the 6000 models which do not have pucks, so I dont think I'll be able to connect to a Tunze Controller.

Dan...I wasnt aware of that. I will look into setting both pumps in 15min intervals using times!

Thanks again guys!!! :D

The pucks are needed for the power supply, regardless of if you are controlling them or not. The pucks also dictate whether your pump is a 6000 or a 6100, the 6000 uses a 12v puck. The 6100 is the same motor block and everyhting as the 6000, except it uses the 24v puck.

If you need pucks....you can easily find those in the selling forum or post a wanted ad in the want to buy section. Also, PM Roger Vitko...he may have some used ones laying around he'd sell pretty cheap.

you have tunze 6000 pumps without pucks? the pucks are what powers the pumps you need to have them to use on any controller

I purchased the Tunzes used, here on RC and the seller specified model 6000 pumps. Not sure if they are 6000, but the power cable is wired directly to the pump. Unsure if a puck will work, because typically (for controllable Tunzes), the wire from the pump has a molex connector to the driver; puck connects to the driver and outlet using 2 separate chords.

Please correct me if I am mistaken?

yeah thats correct. I would be worried about damaging the pump with it not connected to a puck. that is what regulates the voltage. so your saying you don't even have drivers? if you do how do you hook the pumps up to them?

I would talk to Rodger in the tunze forum about running the pump like that without the puck. you could damage the pump if it is getting to much voltage.

BTW I hope you got them very very cheap.

you may also have a non controllable pump and not a 6000 like a 6080 (I think) they look like a 6000 just not controllable. but I am not sure how the wireing works on them if it is just a straight power cord from the pump as I never used them.

It sounds like a 6060 or a 6080 if it plugs directly into a two prong electrical socket. I believe the on/off interval can be no less than about 15 minutes or you will have pump issues.
