when figuring your GPH do you also include GPH the wave box produces and if so what is the GPH?

also is there a way to quiet it down(the pulsing noise)?not a big deal kind of relaxing just wondering
thank you guys.

To calculate the wavebox gph is not so simple, it depends on the tank. To do so you would need to figure out how many gallons are contained in the wave and how many waves you get per hour. Basically multiply the height of the wave, the width and length of the tank in inches and multiply that by .5 as the wave is a diagonal wedge and the volume is roughly half as a result. Then, divide that by 231 to get the gallon volume of the wave. Calculate how many waves you have per minute and then multiply that by 60. Multiply the gallons in the wave by the number of waves per hour to get your gph. In general it is a very high number, usually a 180 gets near a 15,000 gph figure.

There is no way to get it absolutely silent.

will this calculate as positive GPH for my sps,im trying to do with out anymore powerheads.thank you rvitko

I don't understand the question, the wavebox produces a lot of flow but this flow is non directional and should always be combined with powerheads which produce directional current.

sorry im new to sps so youll have to bare with me.what im asking is im tying to calculate total GPh in my system,so do a add the GPH that the wavebox does with the GPH my powerheads/return do?

I wouldn't, they are two totally different types of flow. I would say you can have less flow from your powerheads with the wavebox, but you still need at least 20 time turnover and a decent current in addition to what the wavebox provides.

ok i understand now,1 more ? i have the box mounted behind the rocks so will that keep it some what clean back there or should i place power heads behind there?
also what if any are the pro's/con's with having the wave box behind the LR on the left far side.seems like it works fine.

thank you

can you tell me what PH set up i should use w/ wave box for my size tank that wont cost alot,im one of many with out a job right now but i need to make sure my sps stay healthy.

thank you so much for your help

read in another thread about debrit behind the rock, but would still like to know the pro/con's of the box behind the LR and a what powerhead i sould use at a lower cost.lol
thats funniny nothing that is a good product as a low cost.12-13 grad later i still find my self telling my wife "its not going to cost to much"but i love this hobby, and now so does my wife.she is a proud owner of a 12g softylps tank

How big is the tank? The wavebox gets flow into every crevice, a powerheads flow will be obstructed by rock and other structures. The two are not really comparable and they serve different functions.

thanx roger.
i did alot of reading last night ,WYO on the wave box being placed behind the rocks.the DT is a 125g and the box has been back there for about 6 months, seems to work just fine i was just wondering the pro/cons to having it back there..if there is any.
thank you.

I don't see any cons except the rock may reduce the wave height if it blocks the output at all.
