Tunze wavebox worth the $$$?

I know that some people who just run a Vortech or Two in their tanks have a wave of about 1/2" to 1-1/2" in their tank.

IMO tunze wavebox is a great piece of gear to have... I will never setup a salt water tank without tunze wavebox... Here is my latest and greatest... 4 external wavebox in my 480g...

What do these things do exactly? Obviously mimic ocean movements? But do they stimulate corals or something? Do these remove the need for powerheads such for producing water movement so the wave action alone doesn't? Practical only for larger tanks?

I've seen these and never understood the point. Always seemed to be more for aesthetics or a placebo type of deal?

They are great in creating gyration currents require for corals to proliferate. You can get away with a couple of tunzes like 6101 on a controller.
