Hey has anyone tryed to make a wavebox before? If so please let me know how to do it or is there something about them that is to hard or not worth the effort to make one? Thanks

mines homebrew. its got a stream 6100 in it. i made the controller based on a guy that had made one for his. he had totm here on rc awhile back. its a pretty basic ic555 based circuit - you just need to know how to solder. all i used was a 6100 without a controller. made the box out of black acrylite acrylic with dimensions based on what i thought the tunze wave box looked like. works like a champ and has been for over a year.

How much do you think it cost you and do you have the measurements and the directions for how you made the controler any pics. and anything else you have would be great thanks.

the stream was the most expensive part like 330$ maybe? i dunno what i paid for it - theres lots of places to order them from.
the box i want to say is 6x6x14. its just a box with a hole in it - no black magic to make it work. the hole where the stream sticks out is the only hole in it. the inspiration from mine came from here
the diagrams are on there, one is for a wavebox control only, and the other is for a wavebox plus a couple streams. the parts for the controller were probably less than 10$.

I wonder if you can make a wavebox that external. With my eurobrace and not liking a huge box in my tank was wondering if you could plumb it with one or two bulkheads?

i dunno why you couldnt. as long as the water can get in and out of the wavebox it should work. it just needs one hole big enough for the stream to poke thru, and the top needs to be open - not airtight. tuning it wasnt a breeze but far from impossible, that diy controller has a trim pot for coarse adj and another for fine. once its set for the tank, you never have to adjust it. i agree about disliking the box inside the tank...its not that its ugly, its just big and bulky. the fish love the wave action though. it faithfully reproduces a wave and the fish bob and swerve in the current. i havent seen anything that comes close to the tunze, save for the video of the two vortechs making what looks like a 10 inch wave without a box.

edit: wow nyvp i didnt see that you had a 2000 gallon tank! i dunno if it will work in a tank that big? theoretically it should as all it does is get the water moving at the resonant frequency of the tank. maybe just take a bit longer to get the surge going in your tank vs a smaller one.
