Hi All,

Question for Stream and Southdown users ? Does your stream stir up small dusty particles from your SD ?

My South Down is about 6 months old, yet my stream (6100) even at its lowest power, still stir up and create a very dusty
look.

Do any of you folks use some kind of filtration ie filter bag to catch these particles ? If yes, where is it best placed, sump ?
Does the stream 6100 have too much power that i have to downgrade my transformer to the 6000 ?

My tank is 180G, fully cycled. Fish and Coral are healthy and not affected by this. Its completely aesthetics, that notices these dusty look.

What do you use to minimize or stop this snowing effect ?

Can anyone please offer suggestions before I get frustrated and make drastic changes ?

Thanks in Advance
Joe

A 6100 is what you would want for a 180. I don't know what mount you are using but you could try to slightly angle it upwards. Normally in a tank that is established this isn't a problem so I am a bit stumped but I think in time it should stop. I would be sure to clean the pump every few weeks until this stops so that any sand in the pump does not cause long term damage.

I'm running six Streams (10,900gph) in a 96x30x30 tank with a six-inch sand bed. The tank is seven months old and the sand bed doesn't "shift" as much as it used to but will still move from the swirling eddies and currents created by the Streams.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dusty" but my water is not crystal clear...and that's not a bad thing. Visibility is not impaired but you can definitely see particles of detritus (marine snow to some) swirling about. Much more "reef-like" in my opinion.

I just put my 2 6000's in my tank and am getting a bit of swirling and shifting sand. I think it will slow as the sand relocates itself. I agree with eruss that it doesn't look bad and definatley doesn't hamper visablity if it does then that is a problem.
