Turbo Snails

I just bought a turbo snail the other day. I took the time to acclimate it.... and then within 24 hours, the snail ended up dead. It would'nt even grip a rock very well. i would lay it on a rock, and then a few minutes later it would come out and end up falling off.

Was there something i did wrong? Should i look into getting hermit crabs instead?

Mexican turbo's don't always do well in reefs try to get some brazillian black turbos. I've had three of them for years.

check the salinity level of the water from the bag before acclimating it. Some LFS keep it as low as 1.018.
When I found this out I qt'ed my snails and brought the salinity level up over 12 hours to 1.026. Now I lose very few.

agree with the capn, i just dont lose snails now, i acclimatise for several hours as well, someone recently told me they dont bother and just "chuck" them straight in, i was appalled tbh, but as mentioned by the capn i believe the salinity from the lfs is very low generally and it takes a long time to get the snails to adjust to the higher salt levels we usually keep our tanks at, so perhaps its a salinity problem for you even though you do allow some time for the snails to acclimatise. how long do you actually allow for the process?

Tiger turbos are more suited to a warm tank unlike many of the other turbo snails they sell..they are spot on about acclimation. they are not good with change so drip acclimation for several hours is the way to go. I think I let mine drip for about 3 hrs. So far so good (only one week..)
