turf algae in center overflow

So.. I have an overflow box 12 x 14 in the middle of my 7 ft tank.. the top used to be uncovered.. When it was like this algae would grow just like the turf and i would pull it out every two weeks or so... Since the I have covered the top w black acrylic so no fish and algae wont grow...

I was thinking of building a turf scrubber but why not just use clear acrylic and let it grow in there? will this be the same? any down fall? I also used to collect a ton of pods in my filter socks when i did this

I wouldn't use a scrubber prior to your display tank drains, that is the one spot you absolely want to avoid any clogs, plugs, or blockages. place it in your sump.
