Turf Algae

I heard about this algae, but I like the look. I saw a tiny piece growing on the water outlet so I removed it, but if it starts growing elsewhere do I need to remove it? Will it have any adverse affects on the tank?

I know its turf algae because it peeled off like a pallet of grass.

Depends on how much you like it. Would you still like it if it covers every light-facing area of your rock work?

If yes, you dont need to remove it.

Its just considered a nuisance algae because most people do not like the look of it and it can spread and is not the easiest to remove..

But if you like it.. Enjoy.. It will not cause any negative issues in a tank and can actually be beneficial just like any algae (nutrient reduction,etc..)..

I don't think I'll mind. It looks like grass, and I like grass. Lol

Would it affect any future coral though?

As these systems can be thought of as one big competition for available nutrients the answer to that question could be yes.. The algae could cause the corals to starve.
They will also compete for the same space and algae usually wins that battle too..

For you I'd recommend cutting back on the grass across the board :p

As easy as it was to remove I'd let it go for awhile. It's really only going to become a problem if you let it become a problem. Same goes for things like Bubble algae, cannister filters etc.
