Turning an old RO unit into media reactor

I am looking into doing a carbon and GFO reactor for my 75. I have an old RO unit (has 3 stages) and i was wondering if i could alter to be a media reactor. I'm just wondering if someone has done this before and would know how i could go about doing it.

I am not sure what kind of pump i could or should use and what could be used for inside the canisters to hold the media. I looked online at the BRS reactors and they actually look like clear RO canisters with some sort of inside canister to hold the media and i am guessing also works to direct the water flow

I just noticed these canisters on BRS for the media -- 10" BRS Reactor Refillable Cartridge – Hard Shell -- Does anyone know if these would work with standard RO unit?

i believe the canister will work. the problem is the inlet and outlet tubing size. 1/4 tubing is pretty restrictive, but with a strong pump it will work. it will waste energy though. can you use larger fittings with your unit?

I believe i should be able to change the inlet/outlet because i think they are not glued in but just threaded on, but what size would i need and where could i find a different size? I'll have to take a closer look at it tonight. What size pump?

I believe the fittings BRS has on their reactors are ½" push connect/mur lock. If the current fittings you have are threaded, you should be able to change them without too much difficulty.

of course, the size of the threads will be an issue. the BRS reactor bodies come with much larger threads than a typical RO canister.

Yes, unfortunately the threads are significantly smaller. You can use it, but it will be hard to get good flow.
