i wanted to know whats an avarage tunrover rate for a saltwater tank? is it posible to have too much of a turnover rate or is more the better? thank you

For a mixed reef, about 15-20x turnover is good. Some barebottom SPS tanks have 100x + turnover. If you have a sandbed, that will probably be the limiting factor.

There is such a thing as too much flow, especially if you're keeping LPS and softies. You can literally tear the flesh off of corals like Hammers/Frogspawns. SPS can take and need alot more flow.

Either way, never directly point a powerhead at any coral including SPS. Random, indirect flow is the key.

ant81....25x-30x is fine, just place p.h.'s accordingly...or closed loop outputs.

I run a dsb with ~62x turnover in tank.(sps)

Clean that filter as often as you are willing. I personally would shoot for like every 4-5 days, but at least every 10.
That will give you ~8x turnover...so you will need power heads as well if you haven't already consodered that.

I also, would personally put only a bag of carbon and maybe some live rock rubble in the filter......the sponge will turn into a nitrate factory extremely quickly.

.....and that blonde will get huge incase you didn't know.

yeah i have 3 powerheads already and i think im going to keep my 404 running also,,, is that a good idea to have my fluval fx5 and my 404 or is that too much??
