Tuscaloosa stores...

So are there any good stores in Tuscaloosa?

I ask because my wife and I ended up there this morning on a whim. It involved missing a turn while leaving Starkville and a conversation we had last night about going there soon. When we missed our exit, we were on the road toward Tuscaloosa and just decided to go on that way.

So anyway, I looked through the phonebook and found a listing for "Spillers" or something like that and they really didn't have anything. I called my brother to do a little Googling for me and he came up with a few results. 2 of them were no longer in business and the other one didn't have any corals, "Pet Supplies Plus".

So did I completely miss out on something down there?

Ok, I found myself writing a rant about Spillers, so I decided to start over again and just say stay away from their saltwater stuff, period. Their freshwater stuff is actually well taken care of and priced well for the most part though, I do confess. That is, it was the last time I was in there half a year ago...

Pet Supplies Plus does employ a few reefers who know what they are doing, but they don't have someone there all the time who is knowedgable. They don't have any corals, as you've noted, but I have seen some nice carpet anemones in there on occasion. Almost everything is priced a little high, though.

Other than that, Tuscaloosa has nothing else.

Hmmm... Well, I feel better about not finding any good reef stores then. I felt like maybe I was doing something wrong.

i use to work at pet supplies plus here in tuscaloosa. you gonna want to stay away from them too unless you get the fish before they have put them in there tanks. they dont do anything to the water care wise. they leave dead fish in there until they just dissolve in the water. most of them will say you can do this or get this fish just to sell it and not care.
spillers doesnt take care of their tanks either but the guy does know a decent amount about the hobby, maybe a lil outdated on some info. and hes not to friendly to most ppl.
so pretty much theres nothing worth going to in tuscaloosa. at least until i open my store out here

Spillers....OMG. That is the WORST pet store I have ever visited. There saltwater tanks are nasty. They have a HUGE lion in a 60 gallon tank, its probably at least 12 in. long. There "reef" setup was horrible dead corals and no water flow at all. PLEASE dont spend a dime at that place they should be shut down.

My thoughts are exactly like above. If I did not care about the law and consequenses I would break into spiller and steal everything out of there tanks; rubbermaid them and sell it all; then bust out all of there tanks. It is ignorance on the owners of the store; get up to date on the times man!

Aquarium Designs in Birmingham and Sarris are the only two places within an hour of tuscaloosa I go now. Though Daryl has a shop that is probably pretty good and reasonable.
