tuxedo urchin

Hello

I have tuxedo urchin that I accidentally dropped him while I was moving my reef to my new tank. My question is he broke his outer shell. Will he be ok? Will it grow back? Is he going to live? I would have tossed him but he is still moving around as if he is still alive. I stuck him in the refuge with some plants. I would do any thing to save his life.
