Tuxedo Urchin?

Does anyone keep one? Is it reef safe? Will it knock stuff over like a regular urchin? Any downsides to this animal? Thanks in advance.

I love my tuxedo! It munches algae all day long and hasn't knocked anythingdown... but, it is large enough that it could so I'd make sure you have things glued down or wedged well.

One of my best additions so far! :) Oh, and yes, reef safe.

I like mine too. Yes, they can knock stuff off the rock if it isn't nailed down. It will also pick up small frags to use for camouflage, but not if the frag is attached to rock. Mine is sporting three small Zoas right now. They eat coralline algae, so if you're a fan of real purple rocks, the Urchin slows down that process. I just think they're a very interesting invert and completely reef safe.

There reef safe. He does on occasion knock frags over but hes not to bad. Probably equivalent to a single turbo in knocking things over. He does the work of IMO 20 turbos so in the end much less destructive. Most books recommend 1 per 50 gallons. I have 2 in my 90g and there doing a good job keeping it clean. The only downside is that they do eat corraline algae. However in my tank they seem to have had no significant impact on the corraline. Some people like the fact they eat corraline and some don't, so that's a matter of opinion.
They have been a great addition to my tank.

Yeah, he has wiped my tank nearly clean of hair algae... but also of coralline. I'm not so upset about it, though, since anything is better than the hair algae!

And, you're right... probably does the job of more than 20 turbos!
