hi all

Ive had a small hair algea bloom recently and im looking to get a tuxedo urchin. I read on live aquaria that they dont tolerate high nitrates. My nitrates were at 35 and i have since lowered them to about 20. Was wondering if 20 was to high for the tuxedo or if he would be ok?

thanks

you should be fine. if you get one make sure you acclimate it carefully as they are a more sensitive critter. i don't know how they define "high" nitrates but i'm assuming it's much higher than 20. keeping the trates as low as possible will help with the algae too. if your params are always stable and you take good care of your tank you'll be fine. no guarantee it'll mop up that algae. cool either way though. i love mine...

Will tuxedos climb the glass if there is food there or will they only stay on the LR? My rear glass is almost covered with these tiny barnacle-like spiral critters. I'd love to find someone who'd eat them.

I had one never touched any algae except coraline - he ate alot of it fast til I could fing him a new home. I like the coraline more than him... Was very cool though.
