Unfortunately they rarely eat prepared foods. Your best chance is to place some food in the sand bed and get it to recognise what you are offering as food.
They are, in most cases, doomed. They simply starve and die.
I have one and he eats anything I put in the tank. I had another one before (went carpet surfing) but he ate anything as well. Sifts the sand all day as well. Good luck.
I had one for almost 2 years. I bought 2, a small and a medium and they would take turns sifting sand and being lookout. The small only lasted a week and I tried several times to add another with no success. When first added I had tons of pods, the fish later picked up brine and then mysis off the sand bed that the other fish missed. Eventually ate flake and pellets too and would sometimes come 6 inches off the bottom to eat in the water column. Not sure how/why fish died maybe buried my my jawfish
