Two feather dusters from 1 tube now seperated (my fault)?

So I picked up 2 feather dusters from LFS. While placing one (bright yellow) I set the other one ( maroon and yellow) in a hole in a rock for maybe 5 minutes. When I grabbed it I felt a tug and the tube was in hand and the worm remained in the rock. Naturally I was shocked and disappointed, figuring I just killed the guy. Lesson learned, place in sand.

I pulled the tube out of the water and it jerked. Of course now I was confused. I decided to stick the tube in the sand bed and see what happens. This all happened Saturday. Today I basted some flow on the feather duster in the rock and it retracted. Still alive! Great. Then I picked up the tube thinking okay, it's time to pitch it and again when I pulled it out of the water it jerked.

So do I now have two feather dusters from the same tube? If so, about how long until the one in the tube grows a crown? And finally, how do I feed the one in the tube if he has no crown and the top of the tube is closed shut?

depending on how stressed it got feather dusters can discard their crown and then grow another one. I wasn't aware the old crown stayed alive without the worm but i guess its possible.

You can just try to target feed with some plankton and maybe some will go down the tube, but I think he will be fine until he pokes a new crown out.

The "naked" one in the rock, if it is alive still, can create a new tube for itself over time.
