Two Moorish Idol's from Quality Marine

I received two medium sized, Moorish Idol's, from Quality. They were acclimated to my QT system, over the course of 1 hour. After returning from work this evening, I decided to give them a go to see if they would eat. Surprisingly enough, they're already chowing down on Spectrum +A pellets (not even 12 hours into arrival). I hope this will be evidence, of their success in the future. I purchased two, since most of what I've read, suggested that they do better with companions. They seem to enjoy hanging right around one another and are already bullying two Engineer gobies, that are QT tank mates. They are currently in the 40 Breeder QT with a Desjardini, Male Lineatus, 2 Engineer Gobies & a female Blue Star Leopard. Plumbed in the same QT 10, is a Blue Dot Jawfish, 4 Line Wrasse & Sleeper Goby. I may be able to take and post a few photos, tomorrow, of the Moorish Idol's. My normal feeding regimen for QT'd fish, is every other day. All fish are treated with Cupramine and Prazi Pro during the entire duration of treatment.

Congrats on the 2 mi.

Is there a sump plumbed with both qts?

How often do you feed your DT? The MI that I had ate a lot since they are new maybe qt would be a good time to fatten them up for the transition to their new home where they may not eat that well at first.

The 40 breeder and 10, are plumbed together. Here's a video of the fish QT setup, if you're looking for more details.

My displays, are fed once, daily. My 210, also feeds small amounts of Spectrum pellets once, on an automatic feeder. I have 8'ish Bartlett's & 5 Lyretail's, in the 210.

These Moorish Idols, will be going into the 125. I sold all my clownfish pairs and decided to change this setup's direction, slightly. Less clownfish pairs and more variety. The 125, is currently fallow, of fish. The Idol's, will be of the first, to enter the 125.

This was my lifestock, in the 125. I still have some of the anemone's, which I may keep. I may add one clownfish pair, back to it. I still have a pair of spawning Maroon clowns, in the 210. I've had them so long, I'd probably never get rid of them.

That really is an anemone garden.

Nice qt system. That pbt looked really happy.

If you want to supplement the feeding MI eats nori.

Sounds like the 125 will be a good looking tank.

I got a Moorish Idol from LA (so basically, Quality Marine). It started eating 6 hours after I acclimated it, and now it eats everything in sight. My advice is feed it 3-4x daily. They have ridiculously high metabolisms and appetites! Good luck!

I appreciate your feedback and input. Sounds good. Yes, I plan to attempt to feed these guys some nori sheets, as well. Typically, once a particular fish has taken to a particular type of food, I focus on feeding it that item. Once he's become comfortable in the aquarium, I try a variety of foods.

One great thing about the QT, is it gives newly acclimating fish, the opportunity to graze and eat when they are ready. All the fish in my 210, are voracious eaters (I mean, extremely voracious). If you do not attack the food within 30-60 seconds, you will not eat. I lost an Achilles, due to this. He was in my QT, alone, for 4 weeks. He was able to graze on nori, eat pellets when available and gobble down Hikari and PE mysis, without competition. He had a great weight to him, in the QT. Once he was added to my 210, he was completely out competed for food. Unfortunately, to the point that he became emaciated and passed. I had planned to remove him from the 210 and move him back to the QT, the weekend that he passed. Unfortunately, I was too late.

I have an automatic feeder on the QT as well. I may go ahead and configure it for feedings. I appreciate the feedback and experience. It's definitely valued here. Thanks.

As expected, the only fish that's loosing weight currently in the QT, is the Sleeper goby. I believe he's eating pellets, brine and mysis. However, he's now competing with a Blue Dot Jawfish and the 4 line wrasse. In the last few days, I've been putting a little more focus/effort, into feeding in his area.

Sort of off-topic: Since the video, I've also added a NET module to QT DA controller. That way, I can control and monitor from inside my home and when I'm away. Just as I do with the 210 & 125. I'll likely be mounting my IP camera, in my storage unit, tomorrow. I've typically used it when out of town, however, I'd like to have a camera for viewing, at all times. My camera, also has night vision. =)

What camera are you using?

I have da with net too, its a great system.

How often do you change water in qt?

Sorry to hear about the achilles, they are beautiful fish and very delicate.

I appreciate the feedback! I definitely owe credit to the QT, for the health of the fish. No question about it. Same here and possibly. =)

I assume you're on the local club and there is also a facebook group called into the blue you should join if you're into social media.

I'm on Hampton Roads, but, very rarely. I really only log on to occasionally at's for sale.

I have heard of the Facebook group. I believe a lady purchased a Vlamingi from me awhile back, who said someone posted my craigslist add, onto the page.

Check out the video, to see the camera. I'm not exactly sure the brand.

It really depends on what is in it. However, I would guess on average, 5 gallons, every few weeks.

Yes, you are correct.

Hawaiian idols usually always eat, and if they are handled corrected, can live a long time in captivity. They are not reef safe though, so if your LPS start closing, you may know why... :)

Thanks for the input. The 125, does not have coral. Only various inverts and anemone's.

Here's an updated video of the Moorish Idols @ day 8. Thanks for viewing! Be sure to subscribe and ask any questions.
