two tangs together?

Does anyone have experience keeping both a yellow tang and a Pacific blue in the same tank? I have a small yellow tang in my 90 gallon and was wondering how it would work out. I realize they will both grow - but maybe by then my tank will too :-)

Thanks

You need to get about the same size or maybe a bit larger on Hippo. Then change rock work a bit. Might also look in to adding a vlamingi at the same tim as a peace keeper.

I have a big vlamingi, a small yellow and a med hippo in my 90, but im getting ready to move them into my new 120 for some added room. Also I have had great luck with the vlamingis I have gotten from Southwest Saltwater. They always eat, and the last one i had before my whole tank crashed lasted a couple years no problems. the last one that I have from rob is posted below with some very cool coloration.

Thanks for all the input.

Don't vlamingis get huge? Do they grow faster than the other tang species? I've read that they outgrow "normal" tank sizes and work better in public aquariums.

BTW, very cool pic scubabum.

With having a 90 gallon tank, the Yellow Tang and the Blue Hippo will be okay until you upgrade. They will be fine up until the time they get about 4 inches each...give or take 1 1/2 to 2 years of age. After that, look into a 125G or even a 180G as a final tank size.

As far as adding a Vlamingi into the mix, good idea if you plan to have a 300 gallon or larger in the future, bad if you arent because in captivity it will reach 14-18 inches long. Members of the species "Naso" are not equipped well for smaller tanks. If it is setup correctly where the Tangs can swim around the rockwork, then a minimum 125 gallon tank will do for the first 1-2 years. With Tangs, a tank's length is the key to their happiness. A well balanced diet and well-oxygenated water is key to optimal health, both in larger and smaller aquarium conditions. Vlamingis are beautiful fish, but not meant for a 90 gallon, peacekeeper or not, because they grow VERY quickly. I would simply advise you away from buying one with the tank size you have. Ive never understood why fish stores (who are supposed to be trusted with Fish and Coral knowledge) order them to keep instore and tell people it's okay to keep them in anything under a 125 gallon tank.... knowing full well the attainable size they will reach.

Best of luck and to answer your original question again, I think you will be fine with the Hippo and the Yellow. :)

I have a male vlamingi that has not grown in 2 years, he is about 10 inches long with streamers. You can always trade it for a smaller vlamingi at a later time if it outgrows the tank.

Yeah the vlamingi's are beautiful fish and my wife has always wanted one, but we are waiting till our current tank is a little more mature (220, 7 feet long) before we get one.

If there is one thing that I am sure of, its that tangs need a lot of room. I would not put a blue hippo tang in a tank that was less than 6' long.

I had the tang police called on me before. What everyone says about multiple tangs is a crock! Nori is the key, in my opinion. If they are well fed, they behave... They are prisioners in our tank and behave as such! Had 5 large to XL size tangs in a 135G and everything was fine. I love tangs and I think flow is more important than gallons of water. I had 2 pumps on the sides blowing hard (Korala 4) to the middle and they thought it was a playground. Just my 2 cents. My new tank will cause the tang police to come too! Look at some fish stores and see what they are comfortable putting in the same tank. I saw one the other day with about 30 yellow tangs in a 110 gallon. They all seemed to get along?

its an April fools joke from RC. If you type FI SH it replaces it with wreath. Look at the logo change

I was thinking what the H is wreath. How can I not know what it is I'm on these boards every night. April Fools on me.
