Two wrasses in same bag?

My lfs put 2 yellow coris wrasses in the same bag. When I got home the larger coris was good and the smaller one was laying on its side. I could see a white mark in the middle of the wrasses body.

I put both in the tank and the larger one dove right away. The smaller one (not healthy) went to the bottom of the tank and layed on the sand. Its been unable to dive since hes so weak but I can tell he wants to hide.

Do you think they fought in the bag? Both were very healthy at the LFS. Other option is that the wrasse was smashed when trying to capture him. Is the yellow coris hardy enough to recover from this?

Fighting in the bag is unlikely with those particular fish, especially over such a short trip (though I still Never put more than 1 fish per bag). Catching wrasse can be tough- getting squished by the net while being chased is certainly a possibility. Getting pinned between a fast moving net and the glass/rock can easily cause an injury like the one you are describing.

Thanks for the response! The fish were in the bag for 2 hours (darn holiday traffic!!!!!). It is very likely that the fish might have be crushed while trying to catch it at the LFS. He was going in and out and putting up a fight. I should have looked at the fish once I got in my car but I only looked when I got home and saw one fish was on its side. Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping he will make it. But I think he's a goner

Good possibility fish could have been pinched in the corner of the bag, btw you should never bag 2 saltwater fish together, when I get damsels from my wholesaler they come in individual bags or I will not accept them.

How deep was the substrate at the lfs? i had a problem once where i believe it was too thin and it dove right into the glass bottom and injured itself. That fish never recovered.
