I have bought regular XM-L from this site without any issues.

regarding the title, I believe the CREE led would be the most popular... I also looked at osram and other brands but went for cree and Im happy with them..

Yup, I am plan on painting just to protect from the saltwater.

The heat sink are two parts, the one with fins is from heatsinkusa.com and other is a 1/2" thick piece from ebay. I had someone from machine shop machined it out for me.
