Typical SH environment - erectus

I have a 125 RR and I want to keep some SH's. I have kept dwarfs before in a 3 gallon and have had good success. What I would like to do is create a typical environment for say H. erectus or some kind of larger SH. My question is simply this. Where in nature would I find H. erectus. grass's, rock ledges, whatever.

I am also thinking of keeping non-photosynthetic gorgonains in the same tank (if possible with SH's). I do understand that a well established tank (lots of pods available before introducing SH's) would be good, and a well established refugium to maintain nutrients would be necessary.

I'm trying to bring out the artist in me by creating something natural for the SH's and pleasing to the eye. My problem is that I am not an artist, and don't really know their typical environment.

So, how would you landscape to create a natural environment.

I hope to make kind of a build thread with this project, so heeelllllllppp.

east coast is where you would find erectus. I usually keep about 2 inches of sand and 1lb rock per gallon and as many macro's as I can get my hands on. I really like to use branch rock too for aquascaping. leathers and soft corals are always a good addition too

yeah, in the wild, they like SAV beds (Submerged Aquatic vegetation) they live in among all the plant life.

We collected ours from the seagrass beds on Long Island. They are in a 90, eating frozen, but always poking around the LR for pods. We also keep tree sponges in the tank to bring out the horse colors.

My setup has Tonga rock so it's easy to grab, and some wide-leafed macroalgae that they love to hang on. I think these SH come from shallow grassy habitats.

there are Southern Erectus off west coast of fl - in my area they are found in sandy seagrass beds - our sh tank is set up with light colored sand, a couple of pod piles, couple of pieces of lr, turtle grass and some macroalgae - I have been toying with the idea of a fake crab trap to add to the look - having a mini float with a rope hanging down for hitching post
