Ok heres the deal, Ive had a 125 gal fish only for almost 3 yrs now and have just recently turned into a reef tank. I have always had some problems with syano bacteria and some alge problems even though i have always maintaned my water well. I use ro water and have a turbo flotor multi sl. i want to get a uv sterilizer but have heard mixed things. I was looking to get the coral life 36watt one if i did get one but would love some imput. thank you

I used an Aqua UV 40 watt for over 2 years and feel as if it was a waste of money IMO. I did not see any true quantifiable positive effects. I've since removed it and dose vodka for water clarity instead which is definitely more noticeable. As far as diseases, it's never been more effective than proper care and acclimation IME. I still had ich break outs on my tangs when first introduced but proper care and prevention has been pretty successful for the most part.

Just my .02

It would help control but wont cure any current problem. I would save money on what ever needed to solve. Stock ,source , flow , Sb condition and LR condition , water change scedule , ect...

All the water readings you can test for would help.

You should use RO/DI if you can, and UV does a great deal in killing suspended microorganism in the water column. Despite some people not noticing it, you will have a decreased amount of algae on the glass and everywhere else.
