I've been dealing with what I assumed was cyano, but now I'm not sure. Can some help ID this.

I vote for primarily Diatoms. New Tank I assume? It's a normal part of NTS (New Tank Syndrome). They, too, shall pass.

Like 2 months

Are diatoms really light sensitive? When I leave for work, they are mostly gone, but when I come home, it looks like that.

yep.. normal.. and will go probably away on its own

IMO it takes a good 6 months or more for a tank to really get through these starter phases..

Patience is a virtue, in reefing it's law.

That is the hardest part of this hobby.
