uh oh, now i want to build a 5 gallon skimmer.....

waverz

Slave to the reef!
Just got done reading the entire DIY 5 gallon skimmer thread in the DIY forum. Im gonna be on the lookout for some 5 gallon water bottles. From the looks of it these things skim like CRAAAZY and they look fun to build!

The only major cost is the pumps....gonna be a next summer DIY project.

Mine's already started :)

All I need to do is finish my venturis and dremel the 4.75" hole in the top and I'll have it done in an hour or two. If all goes well, and I suspect it will, I'll have gotten by dirt cheap.

what's the link for the skimmer?

waverz it is cruel and unusual to talk about a skimmer DIY thread without linking it!!!! :strooper:

Thats a great thread.

Unfortunately, now I need to start collecting more parts for yet another project lol.

The good part of that is that the water jug will be easy to come by since the office I work in goes through several every week, and I MIGHT even be able to get a few extras for those that have the other parts and lack the jugs.. just let me know. The only thing I would mention is that they may wish for me to pay for the deposit that the company pays for the bottle.. I would appreciate it if this could be worked out in a trade or something.. deposit is likely only 5 dollars.

I built one a few years ago and it seemed to work fairly good. The ones that gorcery stores have usually have a handle in the side, office ones that are completely round work better.
