Why is Emerald Crabs are on top of each other moving up and down? Is that breeding? I witness it my first time and I'm cluess, might think what i think it is... ewww... Am I right?

My emeralds have breed before
say good bye to the female she will go into hiding for a while. She stores the eggs on her belly under the plate she has there. It took a month or so for the eggs to hatch then the babies swim up into the water coloum and get eatten by the fish and the coral. I think one did survive though but it took like a year for it to get big enoughto come out of its hiding place for me to see it. The wonders of nature huh. The female will hide a lot so dont get worried if you dont see her. CONGRATES YOUR A DAD

Well, It's been awhile haven't seen anything yet, but the female still hide under rocks. Though she does come out just to eat and run back and hide. My tank temperature is at 79, will that be safe for the eggs?

Temp is fine. However, they will hatch out at night and most likely end up as fish/coral food before you see them.

haha, yea, that's what i assumed. Probably get eaten by other livestock in my tank. I would probably impossible for the babies to survive when theres livestock everywhere hungry. I'm a little dissapointed because they can't survive, but I guess that's nature. Pretty much the same in the ocean, just like I seen it Blue Planet on Animal Planet.

Most fish, crabs, etc... eggs can't really survive because of others around them eating it.

yeah they will get eaten and did hatch out at night but i had one or two survive although it took another six months or so to find them. The babies only came out at night and were very hard to spot. Mine hatched from off the females belly after a water change.

Good luck and dont expect to see any babies for quite some time unless you can catch them hatching them you will see tons.

put them both in your sump if you want but remember that when the you hatch out it will be into the water column so they will get sucked up by the pump and shot back into the tank anyway.

plus if they are breeding then they will do it again

HAHAH. It's alright, thanks for your hemp guys. I understand it's nature now, can't do anything about it. It's up to the eggs and larv to protect and survive on their own in my tank. If they lucky to grow up, then that's good for them.

I'm pretty sure they are going to rock the LR again. hahaha
