Heres my closed loop that will be hanging behind my 110g system. I made it hang so that the pump will be operating at 0' head pressure. I will only be loosing around 90gph from the SCWD.

Powered by an Ocean Runner 3500 I now have no dumb powerheads hanging on my tank.

check it out...

Is it ghetto or what I made it in like in 10 minutes with stuff my Dad had lying around 5 year old Joints and caps, c-clamps tubing and all is so old and dirty Ima have to give a good clean  HAHAhahaha!

The intake is a Durso Stand Pipe/screen with a 3/4 threaded Re-bar and down to some good ol 5/8 Vynol tubing. Pretty simple and Im getting awesome flow in the 5 foot tank.

For only $60.00 (OC3500 40.00 used)(SCWD/output U tubes 20.00 used) you can make one TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check it out.

Please post with a scale rating of 0-10 on how ghetto it is.:D

Ill post a video for you cats tommorow;)

My dog loves it!!!!!Its like a waterfall from heaven for him, with the SCWD swicthing off every 6 seconds hes like WWWEEeeeeee!!!

How are you going to fit that chair in your tank.LOL
Thats getto fabulus. Cant wiat to see the video of this in action.

I could be wrong but don't you still have the effects of head pressure with pipe runs and pipe fittings even though there is no "head" created from the need to lift the water. I even believe head must be factored in on the downflow (inlet) side since there will still be friction created in the plumbing straight runs and fittings.

You'll have more than 90 gph loss with the elbow and also depending on what type of nozzles you are using. But those are things you generally cant get away from. Why do you have a durso stand pipe if it's a closed loop? I am also wondering how much nutrient export you get from that tree.

Hey steve Im actually having trouble siphoning water into the input from the pump, I think Ima make a bigger siphon tube....

A Durso by design will suck air in this application IIRC and may cause a problem. Good catch CT.

I have the same setup in my tank...just waiting on the squid to arrive so I can modify accordingly. I just use 90's for the intake with a straight down pipe. There's no need for a durso as the closed loop will naturally not make any noise. The only tricky part is filling the pipes with water before you turn it on. I used a maxi jet to pump water up the intake.

Awwww I c....... Ok Ill be back in 5 minutes see if I can get it right this time.

Thanks guys!

I dont think it looks that ghetto at all...Im sure it will work just fine too

Mostly the ghetto part was the chair with dirty puddle in the seat. :D

That looks like it will work pretty well.
