Underwater camera ideas

Looking for one for my youngest to be able to take pics around/in the pool this summer. Can anyone steer me to one that would work for that purpose and be able to get into for about $100-$150? Also what should I specifically look for when looking for a waterproof/under water camera............besides the water proof part of course. ;)

I'm not sure if you are interested but I just bought a new point and shoot camera and I'm going to be selling my old one which I'm going to sell with an underwater housing. I can send you more info if you are interested. Its a canon SD 600

But in general you can just buy an underwater housing for pretty much any camera. There are also cameras which are waterproof down to say 10-15 feet. Some other cameras are water proof down to 60 feet. You just have to remember that the housing is not a toy and the o rings need to be cared for.

I'm not looking for a housing. She's 11 and I'm sure that would end up well. ;) Looking for a waterproof camera, but thanks for the offer. :)

Hey Larry,

I dont know what you can buy these for now but I assume less then I paid ($299 I think) 6 months ago, anyway I love this Canon D 10.

Thanks guys. After a bit of research I think I am settled on the Fuji Z33 WP. Only negatives I have read are that the night shots are a bit grainey, which isn't a concern of mine. Its at my price point and gets pretty cool reviews overall. Here are some of the specs.

Technical Details
10.0-megapixel resolution for large, photo quality prints
Waterproof up to 10 feet
3x optical zoom; 2.7-inch LCD screen with Micro Thumbnail View
Blog Mode with 12 editing functions
50 MB built-in memory; capture images to SD/SDHC memory cards (not included)

Oh how did I forget this. There is a underwater camera that is used mainly for sports. It is basically unbreakable and very simple. Let me find the name for you. I'll get back on here later with the name.

Considering you can get an Olympus FE-280 which is water resistant down to 10 and it takes great shots for $119 cannot be beat. The idiotproof presets are very powerful and allow a point and shoot to be ready for most situations.

We bought one for our diving trip (with housing of course) and it outperformed our other more expensive underwater rig. So much so that the photos were used in RC's reefslides.
