Underwater epoxy for cementing rocks, gluing down frags

I've been using AquaMend an an underwater epoxy for years now with no ill effects. The Material Safety Data Sheet on the product lists it as non-toxic and non-irritating.

I've never seen it at Lowe's but it was always at Home Depot. Until last week... and the salesperson there said it was taken off their product list. It used to sell for about $3 for a 2 oz tube.

The best price I've seen it selling online is about $6 for a 4 oz tube, and shipping costs adds about another $1 per tube (it did when I ordered 4 tubes today).

Let me know if anyone sees it for sale locally, but in the meantime here's a link for an online source:

Not gonna argue the cost, but the Aquastik which is avaialble at teh LFS, is Gray and a better substrate for coraline, should any be exposed.

Your AquaMend is while cheaper, is White, and under MH lights, it realy draws attention to the fact.

No biggie, but JFYI.

I prefer the white Marty. My next post will show a 4 month sample of aquamend under metal halides. But if you prefer the gray, Home Depot still stocks PC Plumbing epoxy for about half the price as Aquastick. I used the PC Plumbing epoxy years ago with no problems either.

The Material Safety Data Sheets shows that both of the gray epoxies are identical. Though they all show some degree of toxicity, they are insoluble in water and therefore safe to use in your tank.

Here's the MSDS for Aquastick, PC Plumbing Epoxy, and Aquamend:

Keep in mind that Aquastick wasn't designed especially for aquaria needs, it's a plumber's putty just like the others.

The best one for looks and not causing the skimmer to go nuts is a dark grey epoxy sold by Rectorseal. HD use to carry it.

That is good to know about the Rectorseal. I may have to go track some of that down. I am tired of having to turn my skimmer off for a couple of days when I use a fair amount of AquaStick.
