A bit of a mournful post but I'm disheartened so I need to post.
Ever since I started into this saltwater thing again after 10yrs off I wanted to do it right for the long haul. I have a 75g tank atm that will become my sump to my ruffly 300g tank I'm in the process of getting and setting up. I've decided to try and collect a few fish that I'm qt'ing to go in the new tank.
The 1 fish that I really wanted was a pbt. Ended up getting one and ran him thru qt and has been put into a 29g bare bottom tank for the time being. I've had him for about 4 months, ate great and was nice and fat.
Fast forward to the last 5 days, he is no longer around. I ended up getting some live rock from a reef tank that was taken down. The tank had tangs, and other fish in it at the time. I know something got him off that rock but did not think that would of happened given the circumstance from where the rock came. the rocks was in the tank with him for about 3wks i believe.
Besides loosing a very healthy fish very quickly, I'm pretty upset with myself for not being able to save him. He seemed to have changed over night from swimming around like crazy excited for his food to wanting nothing the next day. He exhibited flashing, rapped breathing, and lose of appetite, so i thought I was dealing flukes and started with prazi. I then noticed him swimming in front of the power head and acted very lethargic. I also noticed a small amount of white poo and him just hanging around bouncing off the bottom of the glass. So I figured I better dose metro. The morning before he died he was just swimming around in circles. Came home and found him on the bottom.
Because of all these different symptoms that seemed to come on so fast I tried researching as much as I can. I knew the 2 symptoms he exhibited where flukes and internal parasites, I've delt with this already in some of my other fish. They are fine now. I came across some very similar posts where people had a healthy fish that died quickly. They never could figure out why?
My only guess at this time is that the fish somehow got velvet. Even though he never went pail or dark, never had whitish mucus on his body, but looked perfect in color. No signs of ich, never did from day 1 and know ich does not kill that fast. Sorry for the long rant but I can't seem to shake this uneasy feeling that's sticking with me.
Here's a picture I took of him when I came home and found him gone. As you can see is colors are fine with no signs of anything. The pic doesn't show how blue he actually was.
