Just noticed that my Unicorn tang has bulging eyes. Looks like it has small air pockets on top of the eye lids making the eyes bulge out. Looks painful.
Can anyone help?
SO I have been reading thru the popeye posts, seems like Epsom salt works best.
Should I QT my tang in a 10 gal or should I treat my entire 90 gal tank? I do have corals in my tanks, frog spawn, Kenya tree, hammer coral, toad stool.
I'll start with Metroplex + focus mixed with food. Is best to use in QT tank. Metro + focus can be used in your DT only if target feeding and he is still eating. Is always a risk to use antibiotics in your DT.
Popeye is most of times because of bad water parameters or stress
Popeye on both eyes can be an indicator of bad water quality, but it can also be a symptom of a more serious disease (fish tuberculosis, Ichthyosporidium,...). Many of those are lethal and rarely treatable.
If only one eye is affected it is usually injury related. Often it goes away on its own after a few days. If not, Epsom salt is the best treatment.
Before starting any treatment you should always try to figure out what you are dealing with. Blind treatments can often do more damage than good.
I just did a water change last week.
I do a water change religiously once a month. I take out 25 gal. I will check my water quality. All the corals and the rest of the fish look fine.
