Are you talking about the clams with the orange mantle? Those are a species in the family Limidae, referred to as "scallops" about 97% of the time on the aquarium sites. Some are called "electric scallops," even though that is a fabricated name.

true light?

true light?

Hello pagojoe,

I want to ask you something, it`s a true light or only a blue fluorescence because i have checked with Google and nothing about true light emitting .

Waiting for your response.

Many thanks

i have seen these electric scallops in person and have to say i cant tell what exactly the blue is....

they completely blew me away to see it the first time...i was completely mesmerized by it...

i have only seen them during the day...and the blue "electric" flash is very predominant

i would like to see one at night to see if the "light" is actually emmited from the scallop or if it is just some sort of flouresence cause by the day time lighting...

would be neat if the scallopo was actually generating some sort of visible "electric" current much the same as an electric eel..
