Uniseals

Look in the Diy section here on RC Savko had some. Are the leaks associated with them something that could be stopped with a little silicone around the edge I am thinking about using them on an external skimmer. To save on the price of bulkheads.

:eek2: I would not do it.. :) They are fine for inslump..

I was thinking about making my own "saddle tee's" by using a 3" by 3" piece of acrylic, heated and curved to shape of skimmer body. Drill it and glue (weld-on) piping to it.
Just haven't had time... ;)

Ive got a bunch of uniseals installed in 55 g drums and have had NO leaks, just make sure to use the right size holesaw and pipe and all should be well, Mine are at the bottom of 55 gallon drums so not sure what pressure there dealing with but im sure its a some just from water weight

BTW, I do have them on my Kalk reator.. no leaks there !!! :)
all 3 of them on my ASM skimmer leak a little.. could be thickness (thinness) of the skimmer body

ive used three on my euroreef to make it a recirc. with the right size hole saw, none of them leak. if you have a little trouble inserting them in the hole or inserting a pipe through them, throw them in a pot of boiling water for 1-2 minutes to soften them up.

You should sand the hole surfaces after drilling, this removes any chance of the uniseal being cut or compromised. Also, don't twist the uniseal in the whole after you insert the plumbing.
I have uniseals in my calcium reactor, kalk reactor, and skimmer. None are in sump and none have ever leaked. I have also DIY'd several skimmers, including a 5 gallon water bottle and it does not leak either. Look at my gallery (calcium and kalk reactors not pictured).

I too have never had a leak. I use them on my modified Coralife Skimmer. Granted, these are low pressure applications.

oh, and i just use windex and be sure to rinse it out well after. never had a problem. But then again, i also use windex to clean my tank glass (which I have also heard is bad for some reason)

I shold fitting to the Auto Industry for years and know a bit about them. In a word if you want no leaks, BULKHEADS! I ordered uni-seals from the net and the pic showed one installed from an angle and I got a rubber grommet, I'd call them and discuss if you are going with that brand the pics are misleading. I would never use what I got unless it was in a sump "tick tock" , a correctly installed bulkhead will last years and never leak.

just to add mine to the count, I have used atleast
a dozen or two in kalk reactors, sumps, skimmers, home plumbing, 50g brutes, you name it.....never had one leak,
just get it a little wet and slide it in. the hard part is getting
the PVC pipe through it

I've only had 1 ever leak on my and that was because the hole saw I used had a bent tooth so the hole was a bit to big. I've used them for my Skimmer, Kalk reactor, CA reactor, De-nitrate reactor, and sump and they work perfect and do not leak. So, if they leak for you its because to drilled wrong.
