What would one use to treat a bacterial infection in a fish? I am pretty sure I know how she got it too. 30g tanks live rock released a large amount of very very tiny black worms that died off in the tank spiking ammonia and she rubbed against the rocks before we got her out.
Antibiotics in water. Neomycin, Kanamycin etc. These drugs tend to depress nitrification bacteria but will not wipe them out. You would get a little nitrite but no much ammonia. Some antibiotics will wipeout nitrification bacteria, you need to be careful.
The difficulty you may have (I am guessing) is that you have only LR for filtration in the DT, no nitrification in QT. Is this correct?
LR is not a good medium of nitrification for treating fish in QT because typically it has stuffs, besides bacteria, of high biomass growing on it. If these stuffs die during treatment you will have a problem.
You can try using a strong jet of water within the DT, not freshwater from a hose, to wash off anything attached to the LR. I don't know if it works.
You can change water in QT often of course.
You can use Amquel in water in QT. I think Amquel does not deactivate antibiotics.
In the pre-LR days, one can just scoop up some mature gravel in the DT, wrap it in nylon to become a ball, and place it is an HOT box filter and an instant biological filter will be created in the QT.
