Unknown growth

Does anyone know what this is? It seems to be mainly on the rocks and very little on the sand. None on coral. It grew very quick. Thanks.

I can't get a closer picture. I brushed them off and they are indeed little red worms. 1mm*0.3mm. They are not bothering the coral. Am I screwed?

Red Planaria, what type of fish do you have? Any wrasses belongs to Halechoreses family will take care of that. Green Mandarin slow but eats' em too.

I would start by siphoning off as many as you can first. It's tedious but it will be much better when you treat your tank if yu can get alot of the flatworms out first. You may have to siphon off some each day for a week or so because they will keep coming out of hiding. You can treat your tank with Flatworm Exit but will have to do water changes and carbon during this process. I have heard that Radiant Wrasses eat them too.

Just my .02

Turn your lights off early when you get home, make sure the room is dark and put a flashlight in the corner of the tank...FW like the light....they will start migrating towards the light, siphon as many as possible...then i would treat with FWE....HTH

Any manual process seems daunting given the size of the tank. They are thick on a third of the rock. I have not noticed an increase in the last week or so. It happened very quick. Still researching. I will get Ron Shimeks book to identify and then proceede.

Yes, they do multiply rapidly. Yes, this will be a slow, painful process, given youtr tank size. (QT everything next time.) Must be done as soon as possible, don't wast time. I can guarantee you this is the culprit. Go ahead & do a quick search--you'll see.

This did come from a QT but I did not know what they were at that time and did not think anything of them (same thing with cute majonos). I am sure it is a flatworm infestation but what I am not sure of is the impact on the tank. Is the cure worse then the disease? I have been thinking of getting a mandarin anyway and this would keep him well fed I would think. If it is not bothering me or the corals, does it matter?

Thanks

Well, it is pretty ugly... It will start covering the bases of your stonies & every inch of your LR & sand. I don't think 1 manderin will be able to keep up w/that population explosion you have. It'll be one fat goby though!
