I cannot find any information on this thing. It's all black nocturnal and spreads it's legs out off that gorg at night as if its filter feeding. Has five arms and they all branch out like tree roots? Any ideas?

I searched for hours came up with nothing he is awesome. About three inches or so and jet black. I'm so puzzled

I'm very sorry to say this but basket stars, like all crinoids, are extremely difficult if not impossible to keep alive.. they are NPS and require several daily feedings. They also must have the proper particle size in their food. The slightest change in water quality and they'll start to loose legs.

That is a sweet hitchhiker to find tho!

Any clue what to feed? My friend got it in his shipment from Tampa bay saltwater.

I don't think they are as bad as feather stars, but they're still better left in the ocean. Try over at the NPS board.
