Unquie stocking for a 20H

Hi,

I was wondering what I could stock a 20g High with (24x12x16) that is unique?

The tank would have either a 10g or 15 tall sump.

Lighting is yet to be determined. Probably a 2x24w Overdriven Icecap retro.

What do you mean by stocking? What are you looking for?
Species-only tank? Fish suggestions? Coral suggestions?

You're going to want the 4x24w setup if you're going the T-5 route for lighting.

Wow. Unique in the semantic sense? Yes. Along the same lines as recommending keeping an anvil hung above your front door with fish line? Also a semantic "yes."

Being that that tank is SUPER tall for it's relative size, a batfish would be unique. They can get like FW angles if you get the right species. The fins get super long, they are relative docile and you rarely see them in aquariums. Just a thought...

wouldn't they need a bigger tank anyway?

i have a 20h...and one of the things i tried to decide between...was did i want a few larger fish...or many smaller fish..

right now i have a pair of b&w occellaris, royal gramma, green clown goby, yasha hase goby w/ randalls pistol... i went for all different colors, thinking about getting more clown gobies...probably yellow....i had a cherub angel, but he disappeared??

ornamental shrimp
sponges/tunicates
black maximas
rare cardinals
trimma goby
coldwater
c.abbei?
non-photosynthetic's
mangrove's
the list could keep going on but those are just a few things that popped into my head.

how about a Specie Only Tank, I have a Bubbletip Only 10gallon, that is thriving. Daily feedings, and they split like crazy, mix up the colors, green's reds, oranges, and its something truly unique.

Protect ur anemones from intake tubes, by using a PCV pipe cut in half, siliconing it, and putting grates, kinda like a Oveflow. Put in ur Filter Intake (poss fuge), drill a hole for ur powerhead ouput ect.

For a 20, go with a 175w MH
Weekly 3-5gallon WC's
and keep your tank stable.
do a clown pair, one Black and White, one Orange,

I sure wish I had some pic's...i'll be transferring the 10 to a 12 AP with 70HQI tom..

puckbs, where did you get your randalls pistol? I'm kinda looking for one online.

sayn3ver, I think a tank specializing in T. crocea clams would be cool and doable in a nano.

Species only tank would be cool. But of what? I was thinking about an anemone and a pair of clowns, but don't anenomes have high lighting requirements?

Pipefish or sea horses? I know a 20g is a little small for sea horses, but would pipe fish work?

I was hoping to keep the lighting requirement/s low, as of right now the tank is setup as a FW planted with a coralife 65w PC light on it. I'd be willing to step up to T5 or MH but don't really want to burn another 150+ watts considering i have a 40B and a 90g both lit by t5 already.

Could I use T12 VHO as an alternative?

cherubfish - when you search for the randall's, they are sometimes commonly called candy stripe pistol...but i think more than one share that name...good luck

Cone snails? those are unique too...

I like it!

How about a crown of thorns starfish tank!

Obviously you would need to keep the SPS population high for these hungry types.

those guys are so cool. I saw a show on discovery channel where they are taking over the reef, just wiping everything out. They think it's caused by nutrient runoff from pollution. So sad
