unusual candycane?

I found a candycane today with 10 heads. I have seen them in different colors , but not like these. Pearl white! Are these unusual?

Where's the picture?

White is normally an indication of "bleaching" for corals. I can't say if this is the case with your candycane. If it's healthy, I'll buy a frag of you. Candycanes are awesome!

Without a pic it's hard to say. Pearl white isn't uncommon. Most common is with a light brown. I've seen bright neon green which is more rare. When you see them on the net with a blue hue that means they have them under 20k.

I hear pink is an unusual color for most corals and it's a transition color most of the time...either transitioning to death or recovery or chaning colors.

Interesting...didn't look like either to me. Nor did the mother colony I purchased it from. The original owner of the colony had it for a few years and it was always pink. I'll keep that info in mind when i see something pink.

Ooohhh...I'd buy pink ones. Neva seen pink before.

Personally, I've learned to steer clear of excessively white/bright corals. They're usually bleached and color up in a few weeks, bleh.

Yeah I personally thought they were dyed back then...because i heard that they dye the cup corals. After talking with the owner and seeing the colony...I believed him that it wasn't. Oh and I believe he had an orange colored one...too bad I ran out of coral $ back then :( The guy was a pretty big fan of zoanthids and candy cane corals.

do he still have the pink color or the orange color candy cane? i'll be interested in buying it or trading for some of my rarer zoo

No. He sold of the colony and got out of the hobby last year due to health problems. I'll let you know if I come across these color variations again though.

These guys are healthy. There is a post on my thread on the LPS forum of some whites he had for several years. I took a pic and can email it to someone who could post it if they would.

I was at Jeff's Exotic today and saw 2 single white ones. It wasn't as impressive as I thought they'd be. They had green, neon green, and white, as well as bunch of bleached ones so I'm positive these were white.
