any thoughts on this guy? was shipped as a maroon clown. doesnt really look like any others i have seen. also he has some whiteish mucus on him. could this be from stress or could it be dreaded velvet/brook?

he is in a QT of sorts, spare tank i didnt have anything in (just running) and didnt have any plans for, so if i need to treat him and toss out the sand/rock when done its no big deal.

the mucus was gone this morning when i woke up, and he is acting totally normal. still a chance of him having brook?

i thought maybe a hybrid, but he doesnt look like the ones i found through google.

well darn lol. i've seen several young maroons come through the store i work at, and none had this color/pattern. i was hoping it was something interesting lol.

any other thoughts on the mucus? stress from shipping or would it actually be brook? can brook go away then come back? he is acting totally fine right now, swimming around all happy and care free lol eating like a pig whenever i feed him

The slime could be sign of stress, watch the breathing rate and appetite. What vendor/breeder did it come from, and did you pull it out of the stores system or bring it home in the original shipping bag? I also work at lfs and I've never had issues with bringing home my picks shipped directly from sustainable aquatics or ORA, but if they came from a third party (A&M or Quality marine even) or have been in the stores tank, then anything is possible (always QT)

we get our stuff from kentuckiana and sun pet. this guy came from kentuckiana. sadly there is just no way to QT at the fish store :/ especially with the god awful mars units we have >:[

i took him out of the bag since he arrived at 10am and had to wait on me to get there to unpack him at 3pm. from there i put him in a critter keeper and fed him (he ate right away), did water changes every hour or so til i bagged him up at 8pm to take him home. that way he avoided the stinking MARS units we have (i HATE HATE HATE mars units).

his breathing rate is fine and he has eaten every time i offered food, probably 5-6 times by now.

im leaning more towards stress instead of brook. but either way his home is the tank he is in since i have a snowflake pair in my DT.

and thanks for all the replies guys
