Unusual? ID please.

Hi,

I'd appreciate your help in identifying this coral. I have done some investigation but I haven't seen anything quite like it before.

Based on the shape (roughly cylindrical), it looks to me like a frag taken from a thick, branching coral. The polyps are large and far apart compared to Acropora that I have seen. My LFS was selling it as Mycedium elephantotus, but it doesn't look like that to me.

that is either cyphastrea or turbinarea

Thanks! That helps. I have found a picture of Turbinaria that looks quite similar to mine, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Yeah it is either a Turbinaria, or a Cyphastrea.

Its Cyphastrea alright, as mine shown.It more to encrust than plating.
Not a demanding coral anyway.
